Dr. Megha Shenoy, Research Director, ROI presented a paper on "Challenges for improving energy efficiency, water recycling and reducing carbon di-oxide emissions for cottage-scale industries in southern India" at the Summer Symposium on Sustainable Systems (4S) held at Sannas from 14-17 June 2010.

Dr. Megha Shenoy, Research Director, ROI visited Prof. Suren Erkman's group at the Institute of Land Use Policies and Human Environment, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She also took this opportunity to discuss ROIs work with experts from around Switzerland at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, SOFIES, ecoInvent, EMPA Material Science and Technology, Cleantech Switzerland and Swisspor.

Awareness Program organized by ROI | |

ROI conducted an awareness program on “Industrial Ecology Approaches to Optimize Resources in the Silk Reeling Sector” at the Karnataka State Department of Sericulture Office at Sidlaghatta, Karnataka. Mr. Lokanath S. Researcher, ROI spoke on “Maximizing Resource Efficiency in Silk-Reeling Units in Sidlaghatta”. Mr. M. S. Chandrashekhar, Regional Manager- Sales, Radiant Solar Pvt. Ltd presented details on types of solar water heaters that can be used by the silk reeling industry, associated costs and pay back periods through reducing consumption of firewood. Both presentations were delivered in the local language i.e. Kannada. The program was well received by several silk reelers, officers from the CSTRI and the Karnataka State Department of Sericulture.

Field visit - Industrial Ecology and Renewable Energy | |

Prof. Suren Erkman, Dr. Megha Shenoy and Ms. Delphine Doucot visit the Malavalli Power Plant Ltd. (MPPL) along with eminent Swiss delegates. MPPL uses biomass to generate electricity and therefore emits less carbon di oxide than a coal fired power plant.

He has completed his Masters degree in Public Policy from the School of Public Policy, Indian Institution of Charted Financial Analysis of India (ICFAI), Hyderabad, India. He will be investigating solutions to improve energy efficiency, water recycling and reduce carbon di-oxide emissions in the silk reeling sector around Bangalore.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, ROI, and the Center for Industrial Ecology, Yale University conducts an awareness program on Industrial Ecology on 3 December 2009 - National Pollution Prevention Day in Mysore. Dr. Ashton spoke on "Industrial Ecology: Crafting effective policies and business practices for sustainably managing resources"; Dr. Shenoy presented results of ROI and Yale University's investigation on Industrial Symbiosis in Nanjangud in a talk titled "Building eco-industrial networks in Nanjangud". The presentations were followed by a symbiosis workshop. The program was well received by managers from industries in the NIA, members of academic institutions in Mysore and regulatory bodies such as the KSPCB.
